You probably must be thinking this has gotta be some sorta character out of X-men or something . Ever felt the need to monitor a website? I’m sure you have. Well here’s a nifty little program that I discovered very recently, sitting right under my nose in Ubuntu’s voluminous repositories. It’s called Specto and its motto is pretty simple fellas:
“be informed of events instead of having to look out for them”
I, for one, couldn’t agree more. A program like this truly aims to boost your productivity and then some. Once you enter which websites you’d like to monitor and at what rate, just forget about it and let it do its thing as it sits right there in your system tray. Specto will monitor a website even if it doesn’t have a syndication/RSS feed. It may also be used to monitor your email, files, folders and system processes. A word of caution when it comes to your email. As per this review, Specto stored the reviewer’s username and password in an unencrypted text file. Things might have changed since then, but I never really tested any of that. For it’s basic purpose, Specto is spect-acular .
Note that this tiny little application is available for Linux only.
Go ahead guys, give it a spin!
